Walkable City
The participatory platform for gathering your residents’ feedback on walking quality
Developed with ergonomists, tested in laboratories, and proven across numerous areas, Walkable City is suitable for all residents: people with disabilities, seniors, schoolchildren, and parents.
Accessible on mobile or desktop, it can be used at the scale of a metropolitan area, a city, a neighborhood, or a development project to gather residents’ feedback on the main walkability criteria.
It is also designed to track, over time, the actions undertaken by each local authority.
Using a map of the area, users rate streets or street segments, on criteria such as urban design, accessibility, comfort, and safety criteria during their journeys.
They can leave a comment, as well as indicate their age and gender.
The platform encouragesthem to share what they like, not just what they dislike. Having data that highlights highly favored places is very important for planning an effective Pedestrian Master Plan.
A turnkey deployment
The platform is deployed on a turnkey solution, including a communication kit and support for defining and implementing the strategy for a wide range of target audiences: residents, associations, seniors, people with reduced mobility…
All collected data is analyzed to produce maps covering all walkability related themes and indicators.
Comments left by users for each street are processed to provide a summarized visualization of feedback (aggregated by street, neighborhood, or transit catchment area).
Case Study: Rennes Métropole
The survey conducted for Rennes Métropole (France) in 2024 gathered a lot of data the city previously lacked, including:
- Data on pedestrians’ perceptions of greenery, which Rennes Métropole will integrate into its landscape strategy.
- Data on the perceived safety regarding car and bicycle traffic, useful for traffic calming and improving pedestrian safety.
- Data on sidewalk and crossing conditions, cleanliness, lighting, noise...
The data is also used by the STAR transport network (Keolis Rennes Métropole) to assess walkability around Rennes Métropole’s future trambus routes, in order to help decide on the location of certain stops and improve the walkability of their catchment areas.
Overall, thanks to the communication strategy implemented with Rennes Métropole, around 860 residents shared their experiences and rated more than 2,500 streets across the entire metropolitan area.
